"The Slump" is the third episode of Season 1 of the FOX television show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It originally aired 1st October 2013 to 3.43 million viewers.
Synopsis
Jake has a lot of unsolved cases on hand and the other detectives are unwilling to let his losing streak rub off on them. Meanwhile, Amy recruits Rosa and Gina for help when Holt asks her to run lead on the Junior Policeman Program for at-risk youth and Boyle helps Jeffords with a special case he's unable to solve.
Amy fails to persuade the at-risk youngsters to support the police, and turns to Rosa. She too fails, as they make a remix of her voice. "Throwin' you in jail, throwin' you in jail, got it, got it?" She also remarks that she does not recognise the feeling of being laughed at.
Amy and Rosa are forced to turn to their last hope: Gina. She had previously asked them if she could help, but they had turned her down. Now she is their last hop. She turns on Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" and tells them to find a passion. She then proceeds to dance awfully, to no avail. She adds that police earn a large amount of money each year, they get to carry around a gun and they don't have to stop at red lights. This gets eight hands up to join. As the youngsters file out, Gina remarks that she was in this program, and that it "does not work".
Holt provides Jake with a 'lucky rabbits' foot' to rub. Jake soon realises one of his unsolved cases of a missing grandma, Helen Sterrino, was actually a ruse, and Rushes to confront the offenders, thereby ending the slump.
