Episode Synopsis[]

Terry's ex replaces Teddy in evaluating the precinct, but Jake and Rosa are distracted by a burglary case that occurred on the set of one of their favorite detective TV shows. As the rest of the Nine-Nine concentrate on the audit (and Terry's past relationship strategies), Jake and Rosa pass time with the series star and producer, who meddle in the case and charm Jake with the glamour of show business.^[1]

Trivia[]

A show within a show, "Serve & Protect" is a spoof of TV cop shows.
While interrogating Terry, Gina offered a cup of yogurt to Terry and then violently discarded it against the wall. At 15:45 into the episode, a splatter of yogurt can be seen in Amy's hair, though in previous and following clips, the yogurt is absent.
During the scene where Boyle and Holt discuss appealing to the deputy commissioner while in the bathroom Boyle makes reference to the TV series Desperate Housewives, this show starred Eva Longoria who played Jake's short term girlfriend Sophia Perez in series 2.
Although "Serve & Protect" is based off Law and Order, later in the show in the episode The Crime Scene, Jake mentions Law and Order as one of the TV shows based on the NYPD, implying that Law and Order as well as Serve and Protect both exist in the same universe.
